Description

This 20–25 minute self-paced course builds on the foundational and operational knowledge covered earlier in the StudyAML UK Series, shifting the focus to senior management accountability, governance, and strategic oversight of AML/CFT/CFP frameworks. Participants will explore how the FCA assesses senior management effectiveness, what “reasonable steps” mean in practice under the Senior Managers & Certification Regime (SMCR), and how failures in governance, systems, and culture lead to enforcement action. Through real-world case studies, practical examples, and behavioural guidance, the course explains how Senior Managers should oversee enterprise-wide risk assessments, monitoring systems, data quality, vendor relationships, and emerging risks — including cryptoassets, proliferation financing, fraud convergence, and the use of AI in compliance. This course equips senior leaders with the insight and confidence needed to challenge MI, direct remediation, and evidence robust oversight in a complex and evolving financial crime environment.

What will you learn?

  • Module 3 — Systems & Controls
Explore how transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, QA, data governance, model risk, and vendor oversight support effective AML/CFT/CFP outcomes.
  • Module 4 — Enforcement Themes & Case Studies
Review FCA enforcement cases to identify common governance failures, cultural weaknesses, and lessons Senior Managers must apply in practice.
